Make Your Mark: Daniel’s Search for A Good Job

Daniel’s life began in the shadows. Due to the premature death of his parents, his birth was never legally registered. Though a citizen, he remained invisible to the government. Though he worked hard picking vegetables for his family, this legal invisibility became a brutal prison.

When he applied for better jobs, stable income for his family, companies rejected him with the decisive phrase: “We cannot hire you without documents.

You see, without a Birth Certificate, Daniel could never register with the Tax Authorities in his country. Because he had no Tax ID, employers could not hire him legally. All of his job options were “under the table.”

The turning point came when his partner confronted him: "If something happens to you, if you die, no one will be able to claim your body—you do not exist for the government." This shocking realization drove Daniel to finally address this injustice. (Learn more about why Birth Certificates are so important here.)

After confronting bureaucratic failures and outright betrayal, Daniel finally found Inalienable.

For over a year, Inalienable committed to tedious detective work. We slowly found ways to demonstrate Daniel’s identity in ways recognized by the government.

Finally, Daniel received his birth certificate! This was a legal rebirth: he gained an official name and nationality. He immediately secured official identification and registered with the SAT (Mexico’s equivalent of the IRS), opening the door to formal employment and basic economic stability.

Daniel Made his Mark on his own future, achieving visibility for the overlooked.

Will you Make Your Mark today, too? Join Inalienable to Make Your Mark for people like Daniel. Your dedication ensures the next person facing invisibility finds their path to dignity.
